presented by Marilyn E. with bills paid, balance is $24,534.56. Motion to accept
by Kathy M., seconded by Leon K. For your information, the monthly meeting
minutes are available on the egfheritage.com website for your perusing.
-No Communications.
-Old Business: Donna S. raised the concern of sawdust
residue from Busy Beavers WoodCarver's use of Bier building last month,
getting into our computer and printer equipment. The discussion continuing on
the possibility of the WoodCarvers moving into Amundson Classroom instead. This
swayed the discussion to the finishing of the classroom first. Dale said that to
finish the Amundson building, it needs a boiler for heating, kitchenette and
woodwork trim finished. He said he would make an “Amundson Blg To Do List” so
everyone knows what projects remain. Laura M. would like the classroom floor and
wall trim finished before the next Water Festival, May 2-3.
It was stated by Dale that Norm V. and the Boy Scouts were planning on
working on these projects. It was suggested by Donna S. to ask the WoodCarvers
to finish the wood trim work. The discussion was inconclusive.
-Carl addressed the Barrett door project, estimating the cost of a new header
beam and hardware to cost approximately $2,000. He also estimated $2,000 for the
farming of the land, and $5,000 approximately, for the ditching/drainage
renovation project. This drainage ditch would go from the Sherlock House, across
frontage road, behind the Barn and into the trees, using drain tiles. Carl has
asked for help from Paul Zavoral (Higher Ground Inc.), and equipment use from
John Barrett and Leon Krueger. Carl asked permission to start the project.
Motion made by Donna S. and seconded by Laura M.
-Laura M. is ready to submit a Land O'Lakes agricultural grant that would fund
teaching materials and gardening plants and supplies for the Pizza Garden. Part
of the grant money from the “Connecting Children with Nature Educational Grant”
allows the hiring of a retired teacher for creating garden lesson plans that
meet the MN, ND and Federal educational curriculum requirements. An
old-fashioned wooden turtle games was presented by Laura and she needed someone
to cut out wooden turtles so it could be used at Heritage Days. Karen M. told
about her experiences as a volunteer at the annual Special Assignment; Pizza
Event sponsored by GF Extension Service and Farm Bureau to get hands-on
educational ideas for use with our Pizza Garden.
-The Incident and Accident Report forms are now located in the Bier Blg filing
cabinet. They should be filled out, in the case of an accident on the Heritage
Grounds.
-FunDnight was discussed. This year's event will be at the VFW, April 15,
starting at 5:00pm. Tickets are $25/ person. Teri H. is the “go-to-person” for
tickets and questions. Silent Auction Item forms were available and each member
is encouraged to find sponsors and items for the event. Donna S. mentioned the
accountant needs the value per item to be listed on the form for donation
purposes and also the actual selling price. Kathy M. says items for the auction
could be brought over to VFW, Thursday and Friday. Set-up of the Silent Auction
will be Friday afternoon. People currently working on the auction include
Mel'O'Dee G, Julie J, Teri H, and Shelly.
-Heritage Days discussion: Kim Nelson is willing to Co-chair Heritage Days with
someone else. A possible second person is Deb Solem. Dale will follow-up with
her. The first Heritage Days meeting which includes entertainment committee,
will be April 4, 7pm at the Granville Church. A suggestion for the Entry
Button design was the refurbished Heritage Truck. All agreed with this Button
logo for this year. It was motioned by Donna S. and seconded by Marilyn E. to
submit design to the Sr High Buttons-R-Us Club to start making some buttons at
40cents/button cost, so that we have some entry buttons for FunDnight. The price
of $8 early or $10 at the gate for the Entry button was motioned by Donna S. and
seconded by Leon K. but did not carry. It was decided then that a few buttons
would be made for Door Prizes only at FunDnight. Discussions then, turned to the
price of admission to Heritage Days, the possibility of sponsorship for free or
reduced admission, volunteers/participants admission fee or free, Sunday
Dinner-only participant's entry free, the validity of Sunday Dinner when numbers
are down. It was suggested that Sponsors for 2012 Heritage Days be approached in
the Fall of this year before the new fiscal year. These issues were tabled and
will be discussed further at the Heritage Days Meetings scheduled for April 4
and then presented to the next Heritage Board meeting.
-Paul and Heather Arens, who just became new members, presented their proposal
for a Horse Show during Heritage Days. They estimated they would draw 75-100
participants and their costs estimated
$1,000. They would need a minimum of 100 x 200 ft for the arena. Further
discussion is needed before a decision is made.
-Regarding the Re-enactment of Train robbery suggested by Tim Holt. This group
would require housing, mileage paid and charges $800-1500 which expense would be
split with the Northern Lights Railroad according to Dale H. More discussion is
needed, maybe through the Entertainment Committee.
-Potato Museum update from Darren. He says he has donations of a 2-row planter
and a 2-row digger with steel wheels. Laura M. said that an equipment inventory
is needed for grant purposes. Donna said that the accountant also needs a list
of assets that are insured. Further discussion ensued on insuring equipment in
the buildings not just the buildings.
Dale H. mentioned that C&L Insurance occasionally does a walk-through
review of the grounds.
-Donna S. mentioned that at the Eagle Scout Banquet, Spencer, who built the
sidewalk around Sherlock House received the National Service Award and the
“Scout?” who built the ramp for Carl's Cook Car also received his Eagle Scout
award at their banquet.
Meeting was adjourned with Darren making the motion and Marilyn seconded.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen McBride, recording Secretary
